Wellness visits, also referred to as annual mental health check-ins, are 50-minute, one-on-one meetings with a licensed mental health professional. These sessions focus on exploring coping skills for job-related stressors, providing space to develop stress management strategies, and offering education to enhance overall mental health and well-being.

Wellness visits are typically offered annually, with costs covered by the department or agency. They can be conducted at a confidential location within the department (travel expenses may apply) or completed virtually. Virtual options provide accessible support for rural departments with limited access to culturally competent wellness providers.

Wellness visits are not mental health screenings, diagnostic assessments, or fitness-for-duty evaluations. Instead, they focus on providing education and support. These visits are completely confidential, and the only information shared with the department or agency is the employee’s name and attendance date.
